DescriptionBestselling author Maeve Binchy brings her compassion, warmth and humor to the story of family and friends caught in the clash between Ireland’s past and future.
Dr. Clara Casey was certain the senior cardiologist position was hers. Instead, she is offered the thankless job of establishing a rehab heart clinic that’s woefully under funded. She reluctantly accepts the job, but promises to leave after one year. Clara quickly assembles a diverse and capable staff, all of whom pitch in to help heal the lives of their demanding and sometimes difficult patients. Before long, they have established the clinic as an integral part of the community. After the year is up, Clara struggles with the decision to leave, knowing that her time there has changed her life forever. From the Compact Disc edition. ExcerptsFrom the book ...Mountainview, despite its pleasant name, was one of the tough areas of Dublin. Some of the big estates were home to drug dealers and it wasn't a place to walk alone at night. The school had its ups and downs, but it was lucky enough to have a headmaster, Tony O'Brien, who could deal with toughness head-on. ReviewsA Maeve Binchy audiobook is a bit like a beloved family television drama: charming and absorbing, alive with appealing imagery and voices, and neatly stitched up by the end. Sile Bermingham's performance is impressive. She negotiates the considerable cast of characters with aplomb, changing accents and personalities effortlessly to add to the listening experience. As the title suggests, the novel is centered on a cardio health clinic in Dublin, but the true focus of the story is, indeed, the souls who work there. Each character is developed in true Binchy form, springing out as if three-dimensional, thanks to back stories and clever twists. Bermingham adds a finishing touch to each portrait with her lively performance. L.B.F. (c) AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine
